The Federal Government has made the correct decision in deciding to halve the fuel excise for three months, the TCCI said today.

“Last week, we led a coalition of business groups calling for this change and we are very pleased that the Federal Government has acted”, TCCI Acting CEO Colleen Reardon said.

“There is no question that Tasmanian business and households are being massively impacted by the increase in fuel prices, and this decision will make a real positive difference."

Ms Reardon also welcomed the news that the Government would cut the heavy vehicle Road User Charge to zero for the next three months, which will ensure that trucks and transport operators are able to fully benefit from the excise reduction.

Coalition members calling for the fuel excise cut last week were:

  • Civil Contractors Federation Tasmania
  • Tasmanian Forest Products Association
  • Tasmanian Small Business Council
  • Housing Industry Association, Tasmania
  • Tourism Industry Council Tasmania
  • Clean Energy Tasmania
  • Business North West
  • Tasmanian Automotive Chamber of Commerce
  • National Electrical and Communications Association, Tasmania
  • Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing and Energy Council
  • Master Plumbers Association Tasmania
  • Salmon Tasmania
  • Launceston Chamber of Commerce
  • Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  • Business Greater Hobart
  • Master Builders Tasmania
