The announcement that TasWater will pause all fixed sewerage charge increases for business for this financial year is a good first step – but there's a long, long way to go, the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) said today.

"These changes were obviously way out of whack with common sense, and it shouldn't have taken an uproar from the business community for TasWater to act," TCCI Acting CEO Colleen Reardon said.

"This is a good first step. Now TasWater and its local government owners need to come up with a long-term solution. We will not cop this being simply an exercise in kicking the can down the road for 12 months.

"In doing so, TasWater needs to spend less time listening to its own spin, and more time actually listening to the business community.”

ENDS.
