The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has secured a win for local business, with the Tasmanian Government signing a new Business–Government Charter which commits to contracting with local businesses, paying invoices within 14 days and acting as a model litigant in any contractual disputes.

TCCI Chair Becher Townshend said with the State Government the biggest spender in Tasmania, it is important they “walk the talk” in supporting Tasmanian enterprises and helping local businesses grow and thrive.

“Tasmanian businesses employ locally, spend locally and help make this state a better place,” Mr Townshend said.

> “Sometimes Governments can lose site of supporting local, so it is great to see the Rockliff Government put their money where their mouth is and agree to this charter,” Mr Townshend said.

“We look forward to working closely with Government to ensure we can secure genuine outcomes for Tasmanian businesses.”

The Charter will sit alongside the Government’s Buy Local policy and forms part of TCCI’s broader Vision 2028 agenda to strengthen private sector investment and jobs in Tasmania.
