As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure Tasmanian businesses are connected to both national and international developments, I want to share with you some key insights from the 2025 ICC Chamber Pulse Survey, which gathered views from more than 240 chambers of commerce in 110 countries.

The findings show that Tasmanian businesses are not alone in facing challenges.

Across the globe, companies are grappling with inflation, skills shortages, and trade uncertainty.

Encouragingly, despite these pressures, chambers worldwide remain cautiously optimistic about the future — a sentiment that reflects the resilience we see every day in our own members.

What does this mean for Tasmania?

  • Competitiveness: Global businesses cite rising costs as a major barrier. Here in Tasmania, we face the same issues — particularly in freight, energy, and housing. This underscores our Vision 2028 call for action to make Tasmania a more competitive place to do business.
  • Trade & Connectivity: Around the world, businesses are diversifying their markets to manage risk. For Tasmania, this means we must continue to push for better freight access, digital connectivity, and energy infrastructure to open new doors for our exporters.
  • Workforce: Labour shortages are now a top global issue. Vision 2028 places workforce participation, education, and skilled migration at the centre of Tasmania’s growth strategy.
  • Digital Transformation: While 80% of chambers view artificial intelligence (AI) positively, adoption remains patchy. Tasmania has a real opportunity to position itself as a fast adopter of digital technologies, especially if we support SMEs with training and data readiness.

Looking Ahead…

The message from this global survey is clear: Tasmania’s challenges are global challenges.

By addressing them, we are not just catching up — we can position our State as a leader in resilience, innovation, and sustainable growth.

Through Vision 2028 Tasmania, TCCI will continue to advocate strongly on your behalf — for fairer freight costs, streamlined approvals, workforce investment, and digital readiness.

These are the foundations that will allow Tasmanian businesses not only to compete, but to thrive in an uncertain global economy.

Thank you for your ongoing support as members of TCCI. Together, we are ensuring the Tasmanian business community has a strong, united voice at the national and international table.
