Business community needs certainty on Robbins Island
The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is calling for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton to provide certainty on Robbins Island.
TCCI CEO, Michael Bailey, said the project was essential for the State.
“The Robbins Island project is far too important to be treated like a political football,” Mr Bailey said.
“If either the Prime Minister or the Opposition Leader want the support of the business community in Tasmania, they must back in this critical project.
“Robbins Island should be an absolute priority for anyone who wants to be Prime Minister after the next election.
“Not only will it play a major role in Australia’s clean energy transition, it will provide massive benefits to Tasmania and help unlock billions of dollars in renewable energy projects in the State.
“Tasmania has the opportunity to lead the country in renewable energy, to provide additional energy to put downward pressure on power prices locally and to help keep the lights on, on the mainland, but not if our federal leaders get in the way.
“It’s time for our federal leaders to step up and back in Robbins Island.”
