The TCCI is the voice of business in Tasmania and is calling on the Tasmanian Government to do everything it can to protect major industrials in Tasmania.
TCCI CEO, Michael Bailey, said major industrials were too important to lose.
“This is a threshold moment for the Tasmanian Government,” Mr Bailey said.
“There is a question mark over the viability of many of Tasmania’s major industrials due to an increase in transmission costs. If the Tasmanian Government doesn’t step in and act then the Tasmanian community will pay the price.
“There is an energy crisis that the Tasmanian Government needs to address urgently.
“Our major industrials are the lifeblood of our economy and without them power bills will go up, hundreds of Tasmanians will be without a job and communities will be put at risk.
“We know that the cost of energy is increasing for households and small businesses and it’s no surprise that major industrials are at risk of increasing power prices too.
“The Tasmanian Government needs to accept there’s a problem with power prices and develop a solution that looks after our major industrials, small businesses and households.”
