The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) is calling for the caretaker conventions to be lifted and for the public sector to return to business as usual.
TCCI Chair Wayne Davy said with the Government now sworn in, it was time for caretaker conventions to be lifted.
“We have a Government and we have a Ministry, so it is time to get on with business.
“Our members are telling us, they are being told by the bureaucracy they can’t deal with their issues because they are in caretaker mode.
“Since June, the public sector has been operating under caretaker conventions, so decisions have not been made and the state’s economy is grinding to a halt.
“If we use the parliamentary uncertainty to determine when caretaker conventions are lifted, with the current parliament, it is difficult to see when this may occur over the next four years.
“Whether a no confidence does or does not succeed on the floor of the House of Assembly is not a basis for the public service to determine itself whether it is in caretaker mode.
“How about instead, we get on with the job and if Government changes next week or at any time in the future, we can work from there,” Mr Davy said.
