The TCCI is the voice of business in Tasmania.

Today’s NAB Monthly Business Survey results show that Tasmanian businesses are leading the nation when it comes to confidence and rate business conditions as the second best in the country.

TCCI CEO, Michael Bailey, said this was welcome news.

“Confidence is really critical to the business community and it’s great to see that confidence levels are high,” Mr Bailey said.

“While there is no doubt there are economic headwinds affecting the Australian and Tasmanian economies, we are holding our own.

“While the Tasmanian Government deserves its fair share of the credit, it doesn’t mean that they can take it easy though.

“The cost of doing business is too high, our participation rate is by far the worst in the nation and we urgently need to get the State’s finances back on track.  The Australian Government also needs to get its act together when it comes to assessing important developments that will support industries like renewable energy and resources.

“To keep the positive momentum going we need to see the Australian and Tasmanian Governments getting out of the way of businesses and doing more to support the business community and the broader community as well.”
