Rethink needed on land tax

Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO, Michael Bailey, has called for Labor to rethink its policy on land tax.

 

“I have received feedback from my membership over the past 24 hours expressing concern about Labor’s land tax policy,” Mr Bailey said.

 

“We agree with Labor and the Liberals, as well as many others, that the current land tax regime is out-of-date and needs an urgent overhaul.

 

“However, any land tax policy needs to be aimed at encouraging investment, development and job creation.  Unfortunately, Labor’s policy would do the opposite.

 

“We encourage Labor to talk to the business community and rethink their land tax policy.”
