Tasmanian Survey of Business Expectations shows strong confidence in Tas economy

The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TCCI) is pleased to release the Q2 results of TCCI’s Tasmanian Survey of Business Expectations.

“This quarter, following the state election, and while the pandemic hits mainland states, the survey results reveal a lessening of confidence in the Australian economy, with the North of Tasmania showing less confidence than the other two regions,” TCCI CEO Michael Bailey said.

“Importantly though, there is a strong level of confidence in the Tasmanian economy – in all three regions.”

“Tasmania has shown great resilience, and there is a vote of confidence in the way the government has handled the present situation,” Mr Bailey said.

The Tasmanian Survey of Business Expectations is Tasmania’s longest running survey of business expectations. The survey is conducted quarterly and measures business confidence and expectations.

The survey has the added benefit of highlighting regional differences and is a true reflection of the attitudes of businesses throughout the state.

This quarter’s survey data points to the north west of Tasmania having the highest unemployment rate and the lowest participation rate of the three regions (South, North and North West).

“This points to the need for the state government to pay special attention to the North West of Tasmania,” Mr Bailey said.
