The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the voice of business in Tasmania.
TCCI CEO, Michael Bailey, said that with Tasmanian Parliament resuming shortly it was time our political leaders stopped arguing and started proposing solutions to support business.
“The TCCI is calling on both Labor and the Liberals to stop the silly squabbling, name-calling and finger pointing,” Mr Bailey said.
“We expect better from our politicians, and we want them to talk about solutions. Before any politician from either party tries to lecture their opponent on economic conditions or bring the business community into the argument we want them to first outline:
· How are they going to fix the budget and rein in the public sector?
· How are they going to tackle skyrocketing insurance costs and energy prices?
· How are they going to tackle freight and transport issues?
· How are they going to address skills, labour and participation issues?
· How are they going to ensure GBEs are delivering for Tasmania?
· How are they going to ensure infrastructure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively?
If politicians from either party can’t answer these questions, then perhaps they should spend their time talking to businesses to develop solutions and leave the political point-scoring for another day.”
