Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) CEO Michael Bailey OAM today welcomed the decision to build the Macquarie Point Stadium, describing it as an opportunity to boost local jobs and confidence and deliver enduring economic benefits for the State.
Legislative Councillor, Bec Thomas, confirmed on morning radio today that she will vote yes to the stadium thus ensuring that the project will proceed.
“This project is about Tasmanian businesses leading the way,” Mr Bailey said. “From civil works and steel fabrication to professional services, technology and hospitality, the build phase will create a strong pipeline of work for local firms and apprentices, keeping dollars and capability in Tasmania.”
Mr Bailey said the Stadium will anchor more events, attract visitors year-round, and activate the Macquarie Point precinct, supporting hotels, restaurants, retailers and logistics providers while creating long-term roles in venue operations, maintenance and event management.
“We are passionate about ensuring Tasmanian businesses benefit most, during construction and throughout the Stadium’s life.
We will work closely with government to prioritise local procurement, skills development and fair access for Tasmanian businesses.”
“Tasmania needs projects that drive participation, productivity and private investment. Done well, Macquarie Point Stadium will deliver exactly that, strengthening our economy and our communities for decades.”
